woah, I almost had a heart attack. Bush working on the neutron bomb? He’s still working on saying nu-cu-lar, unsuccessfully. Bush working on anything more complicated than clearing brush brings nightmare images to my mind.
The neutron bomb brings even more nightmarish visions, cities devoid of life, corpses in the streets, awaiting the influx of bacteria from areas that haven’t been affected by the neutron bombardment to start the decaying process, debris blowing down through the business district. Dust in the wind.
Carter, a nuclear engineer and a true Christian (not the faux sort that prowls the political scene today) was in a perfect position to recognize the horror of such a device, and the immorality of it as well.
Unfortunately, the theoretical work was done on these weapons long before Carter took office. The engineering had already been started, and in the digital age we now live in, it would be much easier to accomplish the engineering than it was back then, when computers were huge monstrosities, and relatively dumb ones by todays’s standards.
The thoughts of this administration possessing such Mephistophelian weapons is too horrible to contemplate.
And yes, I wouldn’t be surprised if the designs are already set to go.
